The Adirondack and Champlain Valley cycling tour offers a variety of terrain and scenery for everyone. This tour starts and ends in Burlington, VT, the gateway to  the islands of Lake Champlain and Adirondack Park. Adirondack Park is the largest publicly protected area in the lower forty-eight states, greater in size than Yellowstone, Everglades, Glacier, and Grand Canyon National Parks combined. Encompassing 6.2 million acres, one third is owned by the state of NY and other portions are privately and publically held farmland and forests. By the constitution of the State of NY, the Adirondacks are forever protected and will remain untouched.

Our approach to Adirondack Park takes us out of Shelburn, VT and Charlotte where we cross Champlain by ferry. We ride through fertile farmland on the west side of the lake before starting to ride some rolling hills and uphill climbs

On our seven-day tour of this area, we cover only the small northeast portion of the park, in and around some of the more popular areas of Saranac Lake, the villages of Lake Placid and Keene. Outdoor adventure is plentiful in this mountain and lake region. We take time to visit the home of "Miracle on Ice" in Lake Placid and the nearby area of Whiteface mountain, where the 1980 Winter Olympics were hosted. The Summer months are bustling with folks visiting from the large hot cities to the south, but there are plenty of quiet roads to cycle.

After leaving the Adirondack area, we head further upstate to small towns on Lake Champlain, that overlook the Hero Islands of Vermont and the incredible Ausable Chasm. Our ride takes us just a few miles from the Canadian border, before entering back to the coveted Champlain bikeways of Vermont. Adventure Cycling organization named these bikeways in their 10 best tours.
