The 2016 Cycle of Life Adventures season is fast approaching and this year promises to be the ride of a lifetime. For those of you who have never gone Appalachian Trail biking, you are missing out! This year’s ride will cover 1,473 miles to an elevation of over 84,000 feet from Georgia to Maine.
Here are just a few breathtaking highlights we expect to hit on this year’s tour.
The Blue Ridge Parkway
This year the Blue Ridge Parkway serves as our guide to some of the most stunning views the Appalachian Mountains have to offer. Along the way, we will take in Black Mountain, Mount Mitchell, and Celo Mountain before crossing the famous New River. The Shenandoah Valley offers some of the most picturesque views, especially in early spring.
The Wonders of Nature
Lexington, Virgina boasts some of nature’s most unique rock and cave formations like Natural Bridge. Surveyed by George Washington himself, the bridge is the result of a cavern collapse that formed a 215-foot limestone arch. The Luray Caverns in Luray, Virginia are host to unique formations of stalactites and stalagmites alongside mirror-like illusion pools.
A Ride through History
The Appalachians are also home to many of our nation’s most famous battles like Boonesboro, Antietam, and Gettysburg. Nestled on the eastern edge of the mountain, Washington, DC boasts a plethora of museums and memorials to our nation’s milestones. Other historic wonders along the way include the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts and Dartmouth College founded in 1769.
These are just a few of our favorite stops along the upcoming Appalachian Trail biking tour. It is sure to be the most memorable yet, so don’t forget your camera!
