Cycling The Northwest

Bicycling in the Northwest

In Sept, 2016, Bicycling Magazine ranked Portland, OR as the 3rd best city to ride a bicycle, and Seattle, WA as number 5. There’s no better way to experience the sights, smells and sounds of Seattle than by cycling this 30-mile loop.

This ride has it all — the boat traffic and salmon ladder at the Ballard locks, views over Puget Sound from Magnolia, the sculpture park, the Seattle waterfront, the Chinatown-International District, Lake Washington and the University of Washington.

Both of these cities embrace the cyclist and have provided numerous bike paths, bike lanes, and even bike boulevards for cyclists to travel in and explore their exciting cities. These cities are also quite scenic and diverse.

The League of American Bicyclists, ranks Washington as the number one state to ride a bicycle. One of the best bike routes in Washington is the ride on Lopez Island in the San Juan Islands.

While cycling the Pacific Northwest, you will have the opportunity of seeing the wonderful highlights of the Cascade Mountains, the Columbia River, the Pacific Ocean, Olympic Discovery Trail on the Olympic Peninsula, and Strait of Juan de Fuca, San Juan Islands, Loup Loup Pass, and Washington Pass.

While parts of these rides may seem tough, they are well worth the effort.
