Chipley to Midway, FL
At the Quality Inn we stayed in last night, the roses out front were tended more lovingly than the inside of the rooms!
The weather today was cloudy with a few sprinkles. We mostly rode on U.S. Hwy 90, but we took one country road detour where we ended up being in a passing storm — we didn’t get wet, but we got blasted by sidewinds!
Being on bicycles has made us much more aware of the wildflowers by the road. They really enhance the scenery!
We saw a common wildflower combo: crimson clover, spiderwort and oxeye. We also have see tons of Lyreleaf sage and enjoyed a field of red sorrel. See the roadside lushness, with Spanish moss in one of the images below. We have seen Mistletoe, a hemi-parasitic plant, all across the South, but finally got a picture today.
U.S. Hwy 90 parallels I-10 … both end in Jacksonville, FL near our planned terminus of St. Augustine. U.S. 90 starts in Van Horn, TX (one of our stops) while I-10 in Los Angeles.
We had more rolling hills than we expected today, and they were bigger than yesterday. Everyone is tired, even without losing an hour entering the Eastern time zone today. We had a fantastic dinner at Tour of Italy in Tallahassee, which is about 10 miles from Midway.
