Day Twenty Eight | March 27, 2021
Cleveland, TX to Lumberton, TX
We set out in a muggy, cloudy 68 degrees this morning! The rain never came. It was an easy, short day. We all stayed together and drafted on to Lumberton–virtually flat and only 64 miles. Traffic wasn’t too bad on the 70-mph “farm” roads through mostly pine forests.
We are definitely in East Texas (in fact, we are only about 25 miles from Houston). We think we saw a White Tailed Hawk. We definitely saw wild wisteria and Texas Spider Lilies.
We met another Southern Tier rider today. He is going solo and he is from Washington State!
Our friend Jerr (the e-bike rider) returned to join us tonight. He flew in from Kansas City. Dennis picked him up in Beaumont. His butt is healed and he’s ready to ride 80+ miles with us tomorrow.
We had a great dinner at Tia Juanita’s Fish Camp and celebrated Jerr’s return with an extra round of beers. I had the blackened Cajun redfish and Theresa the shrimp brochette (bacon-wrapped, stuffed with grilled jalapeno and mozzarella). Huge portions and delicious.
Tonight is our last evening in Texas. It has been a long ride.
