“Bold Coast” of Maine is a bicycle tour that we are very excited to feature as a scheduled tour for 2024 after being postponed by Covid restrictions.

This tour is not like any of the other cycling tours found in coastal Maine, where the only location you cycle is Bar Harbor. We actually start just our first and second days in Bar Harbor so you can get your fill of the beautiful National Park, busy town and the great tourist spots. There will be plenty of time on both days to ride the 50-mile carriage trails if you wish, tool around town and explore the coves on bike and on foot. After Bar Harbor, we hit some really great back roads and coastal towns as we venture toward the Canadian border.

Days 3 – 7 takes us north along what the Down easterners refer to as “The Bold Coast.” We skirt small fishing villages from Winter Harbor to Eastport, Maine and slightly over the Canadian border to the Roosevelt Campobello International Park. If you are looking for laid back riding and quaint/rustic lodging, blueberry patches, lobsters and lighthouses, look no further. On our final day, you can opt for a very short ride after breakfast, a nice hike along the rocky coast or kayak in a calm bay before we shuttle back to the airport and Bar Harbor. Call us for more details.

Each day of this tour offers a modest 40 – 50 miles of riding on road surfaces and some carriage trails. The terrain is rolling hills and some very short steep hills. The road surfaces are rural with chip and seal surfaces. We recommend a road-style bike with a 28cm-32cm tire. Hybrid bicycles would also be acceptable. The environment is either very rural or coastal. You should expect changing coastal breezes and cooler weather. Internet service and cell phone coverage will vary from day to day.
