Florida’s First Coast – St Augustine Bike Tour

Florida's First Coast - St. Augustine Bike Tour

Come join us as we head to the historic First Coast of Florida in November and December (2020) and February (2021). There are so many things to enjoy in this area of Florida. For example tons of history in the heart of St Augustine, great flat roads for early season riding, upscale resorts for a little pampering, and some “Me time” to recover from the hectic holiday season. Enjoy this southern adventure while having the Atlantic Ocean and the Intercoastal Waterways at your side.

This adventure begins in Palm Coast for two nights.  Airport pick up is at the Jacksonville International Airport at 2:00 pm. We will shuttle to our beginning hotel in Palm Coast, Florida. With the many marshlands and estuaries, there is a great deal of bird watching along Florida’s Great Birding Trail. Arrive early and play golf on several Jack Nickalus courses or fish along the Intracoastal Waterway.

Day 1

Our first day of riding will be along A1A with scenic ocean view routes, and inland country roads including rails to trails options.

Day 2

On our second day, we move on to St. Augustine, the nation’s oldest city, with a stop at the St. Augustine lighthouse. This community dates back to the 1500’s and has a wealth of options to visit and enjoy, including fun and funky shops, the Castillo de San Marcos, operated by the National Park Service, and Ponce de Leon’s infamous Fountain of Youth. We always like to check that out, taste the water and look in the mirror to see what a difference there is — it could be the cycling that is keeping us young.

Day 3

Day three takes us inland where we ride alongside the St. John’s River, through some open farmlands and on country roads and paved bikeways, the whole time listening to almost nothing but the sounds of nature. Tonight we will all be on our own for dinner so we can chill. Enjoy the town on your own schedule.

Day 4

Day four is beach day. We travel through numerous beach towns, including Ponte Verda, Neptune, and Jacksonville beaches. We will cross the St. John’s River via the ferry and then head through nature reserves in and around Big and Little Talbot Islands. We also go through the charming towns American and Fernandina beaches as part of our adventure through Amelia Island.

Day 5

Our last day is a leisurely ride cycling back toward Jacksonville Airport. We enjoy a casual ride through the waterfront area of Fernandina Beach and the Amelia Island Plantation before we retrace our route across the Talbot Islands and the ferry to Mayport. Here we stop at Hampton Inn East Regency for lunch and showers before taking a van shuttle to the airport or to Palm Coast.

“Super beautiful, well done! If you are looking for a magical and romantic place then this is a great place to go! I’d recommend this to anyone who loves a good adventure!”
