Few things in the natural world are as awe-inspiring as the sight of water pouring off the side of a high stone ledge and clamoring into a rocky pool beneath. Though the first inclination may be stand and marvel, you might not want to spend too much time at any one waterfall. Not when there are 249 others you might want to visit. When it comes to North Carolina waterfalls, Transylvania County is Mecca.

Transylvania county's unique geography allows for 250 magnificent cascades within a few miles of each other. Many of Transylvania County’s most beautiful falls are easily accessible.  From the awesome 400 foot drop of Whitewater Falls (highest falls east of the Rocky Mountains) to the iconic beauty of Looking Glass Falls to Sliding Rock, Western North Carolina’s most beloved natural thrill ride, romantics, adventurers and career waterfall-spotters can easily sate their thirst on a whole other level.

While this area around Brevard is known for it's world class mountain biking. Brevard is ground zero for some of the best riding in the nation. Long-time resident and retired road cyclist, George Hincapie has spent years training on the challenging climbs and exhilarating descents of the county’s epic country roads. The quiet and scenic Blue Ridge Parkway cuts through the heart of Transylvania County

If you’re keen on hiking in North Carolina, there’s no better base camp than Transylvania and Buncombe County. Whether ascending the side of a mountain, winding through forest glades, or stepping down over mossy stones beside majestic falls, Brevard, Asheville, and Highlands offer the best possible options moderately easy hikes.

For this inaugraul tour, COLA has taken the best the area has offer by combining the road biking, hiking and scenery into the perfect multi-activity vacation.

We stop and start this tour in downtown Asheville. You may leave your car there until we return again 7 days later. You may want to arrive early or stay afterwards and take in the River Arts District, culture, The Biltmore Estate or the best brew scene on the east coast.

We make Asheville our home on the beginning evening, then spend 3 nights in Brevard and 2 in the highlands, Lake Toxaway and Balsam Grove areas before cycling back toward Asheville.

Travel Logistics: Travel arrangement by air should be to and from Asheville Airport. Airport pick up time will be by 3 PM Aug 28 and drop off will be by 4 PM Sept 3. If driving in, meeting place will be our starting hotel in Asheville, NC where you will leave your car for the week

Included: All lodging, transfers to and from the Asheville airport, all breakfasts, dinners and picnic lunches on riding days, cocktail social hour on the 1st evening, van support, maps, GPS mapping, mechanic, 2 or more experienced guides, nature guide one afternoon.
